Republic Day Celebration in India 2021

India is celebrating 72nd Republic Day in 2021. There will be no chief guest this year, it is the first time in 55 years of republic day history, anyone chief guest is not attending the Republic Day parade.

Although, British PM 'Boris Jonhson' was invited to appear in India for Republic Day celebration. But, he was forced to cancel his visit due to the outburst of a new Covid strain in the UK.

Before this, 1952, 1953 and 1966 parades in India also didn't attend the chief guest.

History of Republic Day Celebrations on 26 January

India was declared as the fully autonomous country on 26 January 1950 and became a Republic country on this day. As well as India replaced 'India Government Act 1935' which was made by the British government and applied a self-made new constitution for administration, in which the rights of Indians were protected.

Therefore, this day is celebrated every year to memorize for the new constitution to come into force and in the pleasure of Indians to get their rights as a new form.

Why was 26 January chosen to enforce the Indian constitution?

Indian constitution was accepted on 26 November 1949 by the Constitutional Assembly and some provisions relating to citizenship, elections and temporary Parliament, etc were implemented with immediate effect from November 26th. That is why also Constitution Day is celebrated in India on 26th November. But the rest of the provisions of construction came into force on 26th January 1950.

Because January 26th was a special day in the freedom movement of India, behind it a long story but we will know here shortly.

26th January 1930 was the first time when the president of Indian National Congress pandit Nehru Hoisted the Indian flag on the bank of Ravi river for against the British government.

26 January was celebrated as Independence Day in India every year from then until India became independent, but India got complete independence on 15 August 1947 and 15 August was celebrated as Independence Day.  But the Indian did not want to forget 26th January too, so this day was selected to be announced as a republic and India celebrated his first Republic day on January 26th 1950.

Republic day celebration at school

By the way, Republic day is celebrated across India with very enthusiasm in the government and private institutions, but the enthusiasm of Republic day celebration is different in schools. Various types of programs are organised in the school to appraise the constitution of India and tell the stories of the brave martyrs to get inspiration and encourage the enthusiasm of children.

Participation in several types of competition, speech and cultural programmes by children is highly appreciable. The children eagerly wait for this day and as the time draws closer, the enthusiasm increases in them. Many days before, they are preparing for devotional songs, speeches, drama and other competitions and on Republic Day, they get a chance to perform their arts in front of the guests and parents. Students who perform well are also rewarded by the institution or school.

Thus, Republic day is celebrated in India with high enthusiasm and several programs in different institutions of India, but some things are common in this National Festival across India like flag hoisting, National Anthem, and Prasad Distribution.

This National Festival also gives the message of diversity in unity in India and the nation fills with feelings of love in all the citizens of India. So every Indian wants to be involved in the Republic Day Celebration. And lastly, I would like to share an image which shows the passion of Republic Day Celebration in India.
